The set for traditional Gongfu tea ceremony is made of thin “rice grain” porcelain featuring holes filled with translucent glaze. Through these holes you can watch the unfurling tea leaves and enjoy the color of the infusion. A gaiwan (150ml) is used to brew your tea leaves and smell the aroma of brewing tea. A tea pitcher or cha hai (190 ml) ensures that the strength of the tea will be the same in each cup. After brewing you decant the infusion into the tea pitcher where the beverage gets an even texture. A tea strainer with the stainless steel net filters any debris of the tea leaves after brewing. When not used the strainer is stored in the drip cup. Tea cups for Gongfu ceremony are much smaller than those used in Western tradition. The drinker is supposed to savor his tea in 3 sips: the first - a small one, the second - a main one, the third - to enjoy the aftertaste. Tea tongs are created to carry hot cups. A towel of microfibre is very useful to care for utensils and tea tray.
